Course Monitor - Start & Finish Streets

Check in with Lynn King promptly at 6:00 a.m. at the Volunteer/Packet pick up tent near the boat ramp to get your lanyard, pin, safety vest and verify your assignment.
Please wear your orange LRC Volunteer shirt. If you don't have a shirt, we will have one for you when you check-in. You can pair this with running/walking pants/shorts and comfortable shoes. You'll get a snazzy safety vest to wear too.
You'll need to be in your position by 6:25 AM as both lanes of Lake Hollingsworth Drive from Nevada to Cleveland Heights will close at 6:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m.
Safety vests can be returned to the post-race celebration in the Lake Hollingsworth Parking Lot.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
As a start/finish volunteer, many of you will be assisting runners on the section of the course that runners cover twice.
These instructions may seem long, there are lots of details that go into planning a race. We want to share this information so that your volunteer experience is stress-free.
Police will begin to close both the eastbound and westbound lanes of Lake Hollingsworth Drive at 6:30 AM.
City of Lakeland Traffic will be helping LPD to close the this section of Lake Hollingsworth Dr with barricades along the streets leading to the lake, but you will need to be alert for cars trying to exit the parking lots or make their way to the lake for the first time and don't know an alternate route or homeowners looking to exit. Please be courteous and help them find a way. There may be times where the best possible solution is to turn them eastbound and have them turn south onto Jonila.
Ideally, any cars trying to exit the parking lot should go straight across to Derbyshire or Buckingham.
Once all runners have cleared Cleveland Heights, police will open the eastbound lane. The westbound lane from Jonila to Cleveland Heights will remain closed until 8:30 AM.
Here are the street assignments for August:
Nevada (back of corrals): Ginnie Allen/LPD
Hollingsworth Hills: James Watson
Jonila: Set up crew #4
Brandon: Dan Windley
Buckingham & Cross Walk: Julia Rosenberg/LPD
Derbyshire: Daniel Rosenberg
Cleveland Heights & Cross Walk: Melanie Cookson/LPD
The volunteers at Nevada and Hollingsworth Hills will transition to the finish area to assist with water and medals after the race starts and we've torn down the corral markers.
The volunteer at Brandon will help reset the lane divider cones and then help direct runners toward the finish as they transition off the path to the street.
Volunteers at Buckingham, Derbyshire, Cleveland Heights, you will stay in position for the duration of the race to direct runners to the finish and out of the traffic lanes.
Any runners who have not passed the transition from the path onto Lake Hollingsworth Dr by 8:15 AM should be directed to remain on the pedestrian path to finish the race. We are targeting a 8:30 reopening of Lake Hollingsworth Dr.
